BOTW: Crabs and Penguins

This week, I got to experiment with my newly-acquired sausage cutters. And some food picks, too. *teruja*

For Aidiin's bekal yesterday... Nutella sandwiches made from two slices of wholewheat bread, folded into sealed triangles using a sandwich cutter.

The cocktail sausages (i.e the two crabs and the three penguins) were cut using sausage cutters that I had recently bought from a "100 Yen Shop" named Tokutokuya at IPC. I just discovered this shop although I think it has been around for more than a year or so. Maka, agak jakun jugaklah sebenarnya. :P

Looking at this picture now, I realized that the crabs' eyes should be at the end of their long stalks, not on their bodies!! *facepalm*

Sofea's 12th Birthday

My eldest child, the only girl in the family, turned 12 on May 13th this year.

Sofea's class at SK had a post-midterm exams cum pre-midterm break makan-makan of sorts so we decided to contribute a birthday cake to celebrate the birthday girl's 12th birthday. As it turned out, there were two other birthday boys celebrating their birthdays as well so her class ended up having three whole cakes, all from the neighborhood Resipi Rahsia cafe & restaurant. :P

Here are some pictures from that day...

So many different emotions to list down here. I suppose when you have a growing up daughter in the house, you'd have to go through this constant-worrying phase. *sigh*
A deep sense of concern and worrying (in a good way, In Shaa Allah) that will not go away... because all parents want the very best for their child(ren), both in this world and in the next.

"Our Rabb! Make our wives and our children to be the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders of the righteous." (Surah Al-Furqan 25:74)

رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ
"O my Lord! Make me one who establishes regular Prayer (As-Salât), and also (raise such) among my offspring, our Lord! And accept my invocation." (Surah Ibrahim 14:40)

رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ
"Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established." (Surah Ibrahim 14:41)

HAPPY 12TH BIRTHDAY, DEAREST KAKAK!! :D You know we love you lots and lots and lots. *muahhss*

BOTW: Pokémon Bento

Truth be told, I am still very new to this bento-ing thingy and homaigod, there's sooooo much to learn from just the internet alone. Tips and tricks, techniques and presentation methods, bento jargons and terms that the experts use... you name it.

And the bento gadgets and accessories that are available in the market... WOW!!!  I.Want.Them.All.

This was the kids' bekal to school on errr... Tuesday, I think. I was hesitant at first to post this picture because my Pokémon bento looks so amateurish. *blush*

But then again, what's most important is what my kids think... and to them, this looked good enough to eat. Or maybe they thought it looked weird but tak berani nak complain, LOL!

That's supposed to be Pikachu and some Poké Balls

Anyways, each bekal consisted of two sets of sealed PB&J sandwiches (with Pikachu's smiley face 'sitting' on them) and three Poké Balls. Looking at this picture now, I realize that I had forgotten to utilize my food picks, again! *facepalm*

Pikachu's face and ears were made of cheese. I used edible food markers to draw the details. The Poké Balls on the side were actually crab meat balls, half-dipped into red food coloring. I think I didn't use enuff red coloring because the balls looked pinkish instead of red. Hmmmph.

Workmanship-wise, overall, is a tad comot, methinks. *sigh*

I still need to master food coloring techniques and experiment with the different bento presentation methods. And also understand the terms being used. I know what a "baran" is now, fyi. Hoping that with practice and patience, I can be a bento master (mistress?) someday... or at least very close to becoming one. Must aim high maaa... hee hee hee.

Read Me: Educational methods derived from the Qur'an and the Sunnah

I am posting this entry now, before I totally forget about it. Maklumlah makcik sekarang ni mudah terlupa... *sigh*

This article is a cut+paste from the blog of one of my favorite persons in the blogosphere.
*waves Hi to Madame Butterfly* :)

When I first read it on her blog I found it rather inspirational and motivating, so I decided (with her permission, of course) to keep a copy on this blog too. For future reference lah...

Educational methods derived from the Qur'an and the Sunnah

A word to fellow teachers
By His Eminence Shaykh `Abdul-`Aziz ibn `Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al Al-Shaykh Grand Mufty of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
From `Abdul-`Aziz ibn `Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al Al-Shaykh to his fellow teachers, males and females: All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and peace be upon the noblest Prophet and Messenger, our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions.
To proceed: These days, we are welcoming a new school year. We ask Allah (Exalted and Glorified be He) to make it a year of goodness, blessings, and glory for Islam and its people. On this occasion, I would like to share with my fellow female and male teachers their concerns and cooperate with them in conveying the great message of education in a way that pleases the Lord of the Worlds through some pieces of advice. I am giving you advice for the Sake of Allah (Exalted and Glorified be He), reminding you of some important aspects. I beseech Allah (Exalted and Glorified be He) to make this counsel sincere for His Sake and beneficial to His believing servants. Indeed, He (Exalted and Glorified be He) is Kind, Clement and Merciful.
Educational methods derived from the Qur'an and the Sunnah: Muslims, regretfully, follow western and eastern theories of education and upbringing that are manmade and are the product of their own experiences. Educational theories that can, most likely, be used by non-Muslims as well. However, theories that result from human experiments can be of common benefit to humankind [including Muslims] as long as they do not contradict the Shari`ah (Islamic law).
The purpose of the subject at hand is to clarify some methods useful for education and stimulating thinking skills. Such methods are derived from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah:
1- Giving examples: And Allâh puts forward (another) example of two men.
2- Relating stories: We relate unto you (Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) the best of stories An example of this is the similitude the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave a about the good and bad company (in the form of a story).
3- Questioning students to attract their attention. An example of this is the Statement of Allah (Exalted be He): Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayâtîn (devils) descend? They descend on every lying, sinful person. The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: O Mu`adh, do you know what is the right due to Allah from His servants and the right due to the servant from Allah? The Qur'an and Sunnah are replete with similar examples.
4- Propounding ideas that spark the students' inquisitiveness and interest. An example: The Prophet (peace be upon him) ascended the Minbar (pulpit) and said, 'Amen, amen, amen.' It was said, 'O Messenger of Allah, you ascended the Minbar and said, 'Amen, amen, amen.' He (peace be upon him) said, 'Jibril (Gabriel, peace be upon him) came to me and said, 'If Ramadan comes and a person is not forgiven, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Amen.' So I said Amen. He said, 'If both or one of a person's parents are alive and he does not honor them and he dies, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Amen.' So I said Amen...
5- Giving the students a topic to guess about. This was done by the Prophet (peace be upon him), as it was related on the authority of Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated: I was shown the past nations. I saw a prophet who had a very small group (less than ten in total) with him, another prophet who was accompanied by only one or two men and some did not have even one. Suddenly I was shown a huge crowd and I thought that they were my Ummah (nation), but I was told, 'This is Musa (Moses) and his people, but look toward the other side.' I looked and beheld a great assemblage. I was told, 'These are your people and among them there are seventy thousand who shall enter Paradise without being called to account or tormented.' Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood up and went into his dwelling place, and the Sahabah (Companions of the Prophet) began to guess who may be those people who would enter Paradise without any accounting or torment. Some said, 'Probably, they are those who kept company with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).' Others said, 'Probably, they are those who have been born as Muslims and have never associated anything with Allah in worship.' Then Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came out and asked, 'What are you discussing?' So they told him. He (peace be upon him) then said, 'They are those who do not ask for Ruqyah (recitation for healing or protection), or see an evil omen in things (i.e., they are not pessimistic), or cauterize themselves, but put their trust in their Lord (Allah).'
6- The teacher seeking assistance from his or her fellow teacher who is more knowledgeable of the subject to be taught. The assistant teacher sits like a student and then enters into a dialogue with the teacher about the details of the subject until they cover all points required to be understood in a calm, gradual manner that attracts the pupils' attentions and makes it easy for them to understand. An example of this was when Jibril (Gabriel, peace be upon him) sat with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and took the role of a student. The Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them) observed Jibril posing questions to the Prophet (peace be upon him) about the tenets of Islam and the Prophet (peace be upon him) answering him in order to teach the Sahabah about their faith. The Prophet (peace be upon him) then said: 'O `Umar, do you know who the questioner was?' `Umar said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He (peace be upon him) said, 'This was Jibril. He came to teach you your religion.' (Related by Muslim)
By pondering over the Book of Allah and the Sunnah, we will find many other similar, useful examples. It should also be noted that diversity in teaching methods is more effective. This was the methodology that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to follow. These are some examples that I want to share with our fellow teachers on the occasion of this new school year. I supplicate to Allah to grant us all success, guide us to the correct decisions, make our deeds purely intended for His Sake, and a means that brings us closer to Him. May He also reform our intentions and offspring, accept our good deeds, and pardon our shortcomings.

Get Crafty: The Peacock and The Frog (Prince)

Sometimes, you just have to unleash the Crafty Monster that's trapped inside...

A little fly is stuck on the frog's tongue

hee hee hee.

I had forgotten about this picture until I came across the frog mask while I was spring cleaning Aidiin's cupboard last night. Yes, it is Abang Aidiin behind that frog mask.

This picture was actually taken about a year ago, at a birthday bash, during last year's midyear school break.

I made these costumes myself. No sewing machines, hand-stitching ONLY. Crazy, I know. Not to mention lots of cutting and glueing and lacey ribbons and glittery stuff.

But the workmanship isn't too bad, dontcha think? :)

My New Home

Alrighty then, confession time. Saya sudah jatuh chenta dengan... my new layout!!!  :) *syok sendiri*

A big THANK YOU VERY MUCH to the talented (and very patient) Ms. Designer, Ida Yezid of Krafty Palette, for the beautiful new layout. Suka, suka sesangat! :)

I had told her, during the initial requirements gathering, that I wanted a simple but pretty design that would make me (and any visitors who happened to stumble upon my blog) feel happy just by looking at it. Yeah, so very specific, I know. Also, hopefully, in the long run, the new layout can even motivate me to update more often. hee hee hee.

So Ms. Ida came up with two drafts based on our discussions via email and I immediately fell in lurve with one of the designs and we started working from there.

And me, being ME, just had to bug her over and over again to make little changes here and there; tweak sini, tweak sana, and tweak tweak tweak summore. Making her work in the wee hours of the night... I did mention to her, though, that I am somewhat a control freak. I can't help it, it's a disease... So thank you again, dear Ida, for tolerating my obsessive compulsive behavior. I know you think I am one crazy lady, but that's okay. :P

Anyways... today, the design is finally complete and all the tweaking(s) and re-tweaking(s) are done. Yayy!!!

As you can see, I have now added tabs at the top of the blog (previously there were none). In the sidebar, I have added the Recent Entries widget and grouped entries by their respective categories to make it easier to navigate and find your way around. Oh, please do check out the new For Sale tab at the top, and come back often as I will regularly update it with items that might be of interest to you, and especially beneficial to your children, In Shaa Allah.

And that's the story behind this spanking new layout cum blog makeover, which is actually my birthday present to ze blog in particular, for turning nine years old last Saturday. *reminisces*

Looking back, so much has happened throughout the years and this blog has been around to witness it all... that is, whenever I kept it updated-lah. I'd gone through bloggers' block for a while and my poor blog was abandoned and almost forgotten. *hugs blog tightly*

I have had the priviledge of getting to know many amazing individuals (you know who you are) because of this blog and I will cherish and treasure the friendships that have been built, forever.

So, Happy 9th Birthday to... Scrapbooks and More!!! *throws confetti all around*

Here's to many more years of blogging and building new friendships, In Shaa Allah... :)

We finally got to set our feet in the JPN building at Putr@Jaya the other day. Nak kata jakun tu tidaklah, but I was quite impressed with the greenery at the waiting area, inside the building compound itself. Coupled with a cool, sepoi-sepoi bahasa breeze that was blowing at that time, it actually felt relaxing and fresh.

The rest of the visit was spent at the cafeteria where the kids ate meehoon soup and drank Milo while I busied myself whatsapp-ing and sending pictures of this milestone in Kakak's life to our immediate family members. Everyone shared the same sentiment... how fast time flies.

And then it dawned on me. By this time next year, I'll have a teenager in the house!!!  *overwhelmed with emotions*
