Bloody Nosey

We had a scare the other night because Aidiin's nose started to bleed uncontrollably. Ayoooo... sooooo very the panic, I tell you!!!

I know nose bleeds are not uncommon. In fact, we've had several bloody nose episodes before this. Usually, I'd find blood stains on his pyjamas and/or pillows when he wakes up in the morning. Sometimes I'd see dried blood crusts and blood streaks under his nose or on his cheeks. I would ask him to get up and go take a shower. Of course, I would also normally go *grrrrr* (dalam hati) for having to wash his bloody clothes, pillow cases and bed sheets, but that was about it lah.

But what happened that night was truly a scary experience. Not only was the blood thick and dark red in color, it was also runny and just continued to flow out his right nostril like nobody's business. Macam baru kena punch in the nose or he'd hit his face on the wall or something. At the time, I was bebel-ing at him for not hanging his towel at the proper place after using it and he was sulking and being defensive and all of a sudden, dark reddish liquid just started flowing out of his nose!! Non-stop pulak tu! I panicked and screamed. Rushed him to the toilet to wash off the blood but it just kept coming out. Yelled for famyBoy to take over because I felt like I was going to faint.

Okay, okay, breathe. Stay calm and just b r e a t h e.

I remember buying a handbook on first aid a long time ago. But on that particular night, I couldn't recall where the book was kept. *roll eyes* So much for being prepared in cases of emergencies. Haih.

So I ran to my laptop and asked Pak cik G00gle for help.

I learned that there is a method called The Thumbs Up Method that could help stop nose bleeds FAST.

You'd have to use either your left or right thumb (depending on which nostril is bleeding), make a "thumbs up" (hence, the method name) and press your thumb firmly against the side of your bleeding nostril. Wait 5 to 10 minutes. Make sure you're either sitting or standing still, slightly leaning forward. After the waiting time is up, slowly release the pressure on your nostril. In shaa Allah, your nose bleed will stop. Repeat the process again if it didn't, although you might want to consider seeking doctor's advice if the bleeding did not stop after the 2nd attempt.

A pictorial description is shown below.

Anyways, we got Aidiin to try out The Thumbs Up Method and Alhamdulillah, the bleeding stopped after two attempts. He had to stop half way during the first attempt because his thumb cramped and felt numb after a while... His actual words were, "Jari Abang stay macam tuuu je, dia tak boleh nak bengkok-bengkok."

And of course, the kay-poh-chee Pwince Adik just had to imitate his brother... dah nama pun idola dia. :P
